Cheers CS. My what year memory is obviously a bit hazy.

We were so glad we got out the pub that day early. We had to convince the old bill we were West Ham when we tried to leave as they thought we were Tottenham. I think we showed them our match tickets or something because if we had stayed in there, we would would have got battered by the West Ham boys being accused of being Tottenham.

A lucky escape in our own pub. Lol

Im amazed it has kept going as long as it has after the move- as outlined below, I like many others have gone from spending maybe 100 a match, every home match to two or three visits a year - that's what happens - the driver /wentworth and the coburn get the dollar now however the prices the coburn charge its more nowadays...

Many good memories, many "wtf" memories

Good luck to the great people involved in this pub - get down to stratford and start over

Re: For Sale Vic Tavern - Leasehold Commercial with Planning
We used to drink in the Vic in the early to mid 1990's. The landlord then was a lovely bloke called Bob who died of cancer unfortunately in about 2000 & his larger than life wife, whose name I can't remember but she was a lovely lady.

It was a proper locals pub. Usually only about 20 people in there and there was always this bloke that used to sit in there in his trilby hat all dressed up. They used make us feel very welcome in there and knew we wasn't locals but we were West Ham. We're from Wimbledon & was known as the Wimbledon lot.

Anyway, one week we had Tottenham at home. We were in there early doors as usual drinking & all of a sudden, a group of about 100 blokes turn up being ushered into the pub by the police. It turns out to be Tottenham's firm. They had been roaming the streets obviously looking for our lot but the police had rounded them up & decided to put them in one place where they could keep an eye on them. A couple of police vans parked outside the pub & they were guarded outside. They wouldn't let Tottenham out the pub to roam the streets anymore so were holed up.

They knew we were West Ham but didn't give us any shit as we were just scarfers as they said but they were doing lines of coke on the table blatantly in the pub, off the pool table etc.

Anyway, after about half hour, we wasn't enjoying it in there surrounded by them so we drank up & left & went over to the black lion.

After the game, we went back to the Vic as usual but discovered it was closed. Apparently our firm had got word that Tottenham were in there & attacked the pub. Lots of stuff got smashed up, the big screen pulled down.

When we saw Bob the landlord at the following home game he said all hell had broken loose but our West Ham lot had been back to the pub during the week & gave him some money towards all the damage that had occurred.

Last day at Vic tomorrow. The land is worth too much for flats... Pleased Trudy thinks they can get their business going in Stratford. We need more WH pubs up there to improve match days

Makes me laugh when I start to read the obituaries of a pub that apparently you all loved and say it was real West ham.
Well I drank/drink in there every home game without fail and can categorically say NONE of you drink in there or supported it so please, keep your faux messages of love for it.
It seems they would have had to leave anyway as the lease isnt being renewed but it sure as hell would have made life easier if u had all made the effort and drank in there on a matchday.
Before the game we would have maybe 10 people and after the game maybe 20 unless there was some special occasion or march or bigger team and all the Herbert's who want to look hard or think they are real west ham would rock up just to be able to say they were in there. Those occasions were few and far between.

Just been sent this on WhatsApp

Trudy has asked me to put this out:

It's very sad news that The Victoria Tavern is to close.
Our lease on the building is expiring, the landlords were going to extend the lease for a few months but has now decided to move building works forward. Our last day on the lease is now the 8th May.

We are gutted to be leaving the pub which has such great memories.

However, the good news is that once this Corona virus crisis is over, we hope to have new premises in Stratford.. and once again open our doors to our fantastic customers.

We want to STOP THE RUMOURS, it is NOT closing because of money worries, because of the London Stadium, or because of the Corona crisis...
It purely is because the lease has not been renewed as we were anticipating..

We hope all our friends and customers are staying safe during this difficult time and we hope to see all of you back once we open our new premises.

I'm sure we all THANK Trudy Wood and Paul Wood for everything they're done for us, and wish them the very best of luck in their new venture. hopefully see you all soon

Long live the Vic ⚒❤

Castle, greengate and village, it all started to die when they went. 3 good pubs to visit and all close proximity. I spent Christmas Day eve in the village about 18 years ago, wasn’t the most festive.

The Stanley is still there but dead as a do-do the last few times I've been in. Seemed to be different bar staff last time too, dunno if Tel has gone?
